Transforming Communities: The GrEEn Project's Impact in Offinso North District

Akumadan recently celebrated the completion of the third cycle of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project, highlighting significant local development and economic progress.

 

Supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the GrEEn Project has delivered critical infrastructure improvements, including the construction of 400 meters of storm drains and the repair of a borehole at Darso in the first cycle. The latest cycle focused on enhancing market infrastructure, paving a 5442m² yam market at Akumadan, funded with GH₡339,631.00 from the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Assembly.

 

The project’s Cash-for-Work (CfW) program has provided employment to 101 locals, with additional training in life skills such as soap making, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship through SoS Children’s Villages.

 

The event also honored the late Mrs. Emelia Botchway and recognized the essential contributions of the EU, UNCDF, and various government agencies. As new infrastructure projects were officially handed over, the importance of ongoing maintenance and stakeholder support was emphasized to ensure the project's long-term impact on climate resilience and economic development.

 

This event marked a significant milestone in community development and showcased the GrEEn Project's role in fostering sustainable progress.

GrEEn Project Enhances Local Development in Sekyere Kumawu

The 3rd Cycle of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project marked a significant milestone with the completion and hand-over of several key infrastructure projects in Sekyere Kumawu District. This initiative, funded by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), focuses on building climate-resilient infrastructure and promoting local economic development.

 

Key achievements include the construction of a 1200mm diameter pipe culvert storm drain at Esereso to Kumawu, part of a broader effort to improve local water management and support sustainable development. Additionally, local community members have benefited from the Cash for Work (CfW) component of the project, receiving training in employability life skills such as soap making and entrepreneurship through the SoS Children’s Villages.

 

A total of 117 beneficiaries, including 110 women, have completed the Employability Life Skills Programme, which aims to enhance their economic opportunities and resilience.

 

The Ministry expresses deep gratitude to the EU, UNCDF, and local stakeholders for their support. Looking ahead, there is a call for continued investment to sustain and expand these vital projects, ensuring that communities affected by climate change and economic challenges continue to thrive.

Celebrating Progress: Offinso's GrEEn Project Handover and Cash-for-Work Graduation

Offinso North District Assembly celebrated the completion and handover of significant projects from the third cycle of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project. The day also marked the graduation of 101 beneficiaries from the Cash-for-Work program, symbolizing a journey of growth and achievement.

 

The GrEEn Project, supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), showcased its profound impact on the region. The event highlighted major infrastructure improvements, including concrete footbridges and borehole drilling, which have transformed Offinso's landscape. These projects align with the broader goal of enhancing local resilience and sustainability.

 

The ceremony paid tribute to Mrs. Emelia Botchway, a respected leader in the Ashanti Region, whose passing was honored with a moment of silence. Her legacy underscored the importance of dedication and contribution to community progress.

 

Gratitude was expressed to the EU and UNCDF for their essential role in the project's success, and to the steering committee members for their oversight and technical support. Over two cycles, the GrEEn Project has bolstered the region’s climate resilience and infrastructure, reflecting a harmonious balance of development and sustainability.

 

The event also celebrated the achievements of 125 local community members who participated in the Cash-for-Work program. Their graduation, supported by SoS Children’s Villages (SoS), marked a significant step in their personal and professional growth, with training in skills such as soap making, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship.

 

As the ceremony concluded, there was a strong call for the continued operation and maintenance of the new infrastructure. The community was encouraged to sustain the benefits of these projects and seek further support from stakeholders to extend and enhance the GrEEn Project’s positive impact.
