MLGDRD invests GH₡319,271.00 in Ada East District

 

The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGDRD), with funding from the Norwegian Government and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), has invested Three Hundred and Nineteen Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy-One Ghana Cedis GH₡319,271.00) worth projects in the Ada East District in the Greater Accra region, under the first phase of Promoting Green and Climate Resilient Local Economies in Ghana – Applying Circular Economy and Climate Smart Agriculture Principles and Solutions to Local Development Pathways (LoCAL-ACE).

 

The projects which were commissioned and handed over to the district on Monday, August 19, 2024, include the rehabilitation of an existing 3No. Polyhouse Structures and Micro-irrigation Systems at Dzitrokwe; Procurement and installation of a 1No. Submersible Pump to a Solar Powered Mini-irrigation Dam at Angorsikope; and the Construction of a Demonstration farm with the use of Shed Net Technology at Asigbekope.

 

The sector minister, Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, in a speech read on his behalf expressed gratitude to the Development Partners who have provided funding under the LoCAL-ACE Project, and entreated the district to fashion out a facility management plan to maintain and ensure sustainability of the projects for maximum impact.

 

The LoCAL-ACE is an extension of the Promoting Green and Climate Resilient Local Economies in Ghana (LoCAL) mechanism, which has for the past 8 years, been employed to secure funding for various micro-projects that have led to improved water supply through provision of boreholes, provision of footbridges and culverts, setting up greenhouse nets, conducting awareness campaigns to educate the local communities, particularly women and farmers, and enhancing their ability to withstand the impacts of climate change and various crises.

 

The first phase is being executed in three (3) Municipal and District Assemblies (M/Das), and the second (2nd) phase for fiscal years 2025-2026 is intended to support three (3) additional M/DAs.

Ejura-Sekyedumase Marks Completion of GrEEn Projects

Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Assembly recently celebrated the completion of key projects under the third cycle of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project. The ceremony also honored the graduation of 117 beneficiaries from the Cash for Work (CfW) program, who completed the Employability Life Skills Programme led by SoS Children’s Villages.

 

The GrEEn Project, supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), delivered significant infrastructure improvements, including the paving of 3,276m² of Sekyedumase Market and the construction of two market sheds. Previous cycles funded essential projects such as culverts, road improvements, and a borehole with an overhead tank.

 

The event included a tribute to the late Mrs. Emelia Botchway, recognizing her contributions to regional development. The Deputy Director of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, representing Minister Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah (MP), expressed gratitude to the EU and UNCDF and highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to climate-resilient infrastructure and local economic development.

 

The Cash for Work program provided 117 local workers with skills in soap making, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. The ceremony concluded with a call for continued support and investment to sustain and extend the project’s benefits to the community and beyond.

Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah’s Visit to Offinso North District Assembly: Enhancing Development and Oversight

 

Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, conducted an official visit to the Offinso North District Assembly. The visit focused on engaging with local leaders and inspecting ongoing development projects to ensure their successful implementation.

 

During his visit, Hon. Assafuah commended the district assembly and its partners for their dedication and hard work. He highlighted the importance of visible outcomes from these projects, emphasizing that successful initiatives are a testament to the administration’s commitment to regional development.

 

The Deputy Minister underscored the critical role of technical skills in achieving development goals. He encouraged continued investment in expertise and resources to enhance project effectiveness. In this context, he announced the forthcoming launch of the District Resilience Improvement Program (DRIP), which aims to further strengthen local infrastructure and support development efforts.

 

Hon. Assafuah also addressed current challenges, including the need for improved accommodation solutions for workers outside the district. He highlighted the importance of engaging local engineers and community workers to ensure the success and sustainability of development projects.

 

The visit reinforced the Deputy Minister’s commitment to overseeing and supporting local development, ensuring that projects are well-managed and deliver tangible benefits to the Offinso North community.
